Lemon Balm recipe ideas

Lemon Balm, which got it’s name because of the light lemon taste and smell, is part of the mint family. The leaves can be dried and used in any kind of herbal products, most often as hot or iced tea with honey.

However, lemon balm is very tasty fresh in sweet and savory dishes. Especially new growth and the small young leavesĀ of the plant work quite well in salads, dips and with fish, poultry or game. It is a great addition in any light and creamy sauce (like saltimbocca alla romana).

As for sweet dishes, lemon balm is a nice touch in any baked goods adding a slight citrus note. Cut finely (chiffonade cut) it works nicely in (frozen) yoghurt or whipped cream or paired with apricots, strawberries, raspberries or blueberries.
